Surrounded by his family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing husband, father and Papa on August 12, 2010, after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Born in Camaiore, Italy in 1949 he came to Canada as a young boy in 1951. Predeceased by Luciano D’Alessandro (father), Ricardo D’Alessandro (brother) and Erica Murphy (daughter), is survived by his loving wife Karen of 39 years; daughters Korina (Raj) Jhawer, and Karen (Dennis) Bellevance. Sister Cosetta D’Alessandro. Grandchildren; Ashley, Taylor, Scotia, Cassidy, Inara and Asha. Mother Dora D’Alessandro and nieces and nephews; Christian, Anea, Adrain, Germayne and Richard.

“Big Al” as many knew him by, worked for the Pulp and Paper Mill in Campbell River for 40 years.

Papa was all about his family, his love was unconditional, and he always said, “At the end of the day nothing else really matters as long as you have your family”. Papa loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren who definitely kept him busy running around to all their sporting activities. They were the highlight of his day. Al enjoyed his time rowing in the Tyee pool with his wife Karen, and just hanging out relaxing at the clubhouse by the fire with friends. Al loved his fast old cars; he and Karen enjoyed travelling around to these car shows with their classic car along with their friends Bill and Deb. He loved his “Oakland A’s and Calgary Flames”. Dad also was famous for saying, “Even his dog Paige ran his life like the rest of the women in it”. He was a generous man who touched the lives of many. He enjoyed life to the fullest and made the most of each and every day.

A special thank you to Geri Arkell and the nurses of the Campbell River Chemo department. Thank you to Dr. Penhall, Dr. Prinsloo, Dr. Sheul, Dr. Minnaar, lab department and the Emerg doctors and nurses for all your kind, amazing care and compassion. For this, the family is eternally grateful.

An open house for all friends and family will take place on Sunday, August 22nd at 1pm at 795 Sassaby Place. No flowers by request. Donations can be made to the Campbell River SPCA shelter fund, P.O. Box 541, Campbell River, BC V9W 5T9.
