The Campbell River Compost Centre is hosting its annual Pumpkin Smash once again this year to help residents dispose of their pumpkins after Halloween.

The tenth annual event takes place in the parking lot of Strathcona Gardens on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

The free, family-fun event includes refreshments and helps keep thousands of kilograms of pumpkin out of the landfill by allowing people to come and smash their pumpkins.

These pumpkins will then be turned into rich compost instead of becoming a ghoulish waste.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at this year’s pumpkin smash for the Campbell River Food Bank.

Those bringing their pumpkin to the event are reminded to remove all objects such as candles and tea lights from their pumpkins prior to smashing.
