Rebecca Spit beach fire takes five hours to put out

The Quadra Island Fire Department responded to an out-of-control beach fire

The Quadra Island Fire Department responded to an out-of-control beach fire at Rebecca Spit Provincial Park Monday night and spent five hours extinguishing it.

This was a large beach fire in heavy logs next to a forested area with an outflow wind and could easily have travelled, a post on the fire department’s Facebook page said.

“Fortunately we were able to knock it down quickly, preventing it from moving into the forested area,” the post said. “This is to serve as a reminder that there are absolutely no beach fires are allowed on Quadra Island. Please consider the consequences. A couple hours of ‘fun’ leaves years of scars on our beautiful island.”
