The Campbell River Home Hardware Social Fund recently donated $1,800 towards the purchase of a Biopsy Gun for the Mammography Department in Campbell River Hospital.

The Social Fund is spearheaded by Home Hardware employees Amber Spring and Leanne Monks who help raise money for local charities through activities such as book and bake sales at their Campbell River store.

The Biopsy Gun is a tool used to extract samples of cells or tissue from the breast for microscopic examination; the specimen is taken from a lump or mass that was detected on an imaging test such as mammography or ultrasound. The Biopsy Gun removes a very small piece of tissue, making the procedure less invasive which leads to an improved recovery time.

Pioneer Home Hardware Building Centre has been owned and operated by the Thulin family since 1937 in Campbell River.
