Good Samaritan interrupts assault
RCMP are praising a Good Samaritan for interrupting an assault on a woman taken from her home and driven to a remote area on Tuesday.
RCMP received a call from a female victim stating she had been taken from her 400 block Dogwood Street home on Feb. 2 around 5 p.m. and driven to a remote area where she was assaulted.
The victim managed to escape after a passerby stopped and intervened, interrupting the assault and causing the suspect to flee. The Good Samaritan drove the victim to a local business where police were contacted.
Campbell River RCMP were in the vicinity and responded immediately. The suspect, a 31-year-old male, who was known to the victim, was located and arrested shortly after using the vehicle description provided.
“The Campbell River RCMP would like to thank the Good Samaritan, who intervened and undoubtedly prevented this assault from being more serious than it was, but also the public for continuing to maintain a watchful eye,” said Insp. Jeff Preston Officer in Charge, Campbell River RCMP.
The suspect remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
