Campbell River council approves borrowing $15 million
Council approved borrowing $15 over 15 years at Tuesday’s council meeting to improve the city’s aging water and sewer infrastructure.
The bylaws allow council to borrow $10.2 million for water projects and $4.8 million for sewer works.
The projects on the horizon include replacing the city’s existing drinking water system which will be decommissioned by BC Hydro once the John Hart Generating Station project gets underway; as well as water main improvements, a water booster pump station, a chlorine facility upgrade, and a Beaver Lodge reservoir expansion.
The city obtained approval to take on the debt as less than 10 per cent of Campbell River voters signed elector response forms opposing the borrowing.
