Motorcyclists injured in Campbell River crash
Two people riding a motorcycle were hospitalized after colliding with a pickup truck.
The accident occurred Sunday on the South Island Highway near Maryland Road.
According to RCMP, the male driver on the southbound motorcycle was attempting to pass the vehicle in front of him which had slowed to make a right turn off the highway. As the motorcycle was passing, a pickup truck attempted to pull north onto the highway from Maryland causing the motorcycle to strike the front of the vehicle. Both the motorcyclist and his female passenger were injured in the collision and were taken by ambulance to Campbell River Hospital. The man suffered more serious, non-life threatening injuries and was later transferred to hospital in Victoria. Mounties continue to investigate the accident. The highway was closed for a short time while emergency personnel tended to the injured and the investigation took place.
