Injuries minor in 'precarious' car crash
A mother and her two children escaped with just minor injuries Tuesday when a Chevrolet pickup ran a red light at the intersection of Dogwood Street and 16th Ave. causing a three-vehicle pileup that Fire Chief Ian Baikie called “precarious.”
The accident at 4:30 p.m. drew a large police and rescue response including several RCMP vehicles, two ambulances and two fire department units.
RCMP Sergeant Terry Deley says the pickup hit the woman’s Ford Explorer pushing it onto its side and on top of a Toyota Highlander.
Chief Baikie says the Explorer was in such a dangerous and precarious position that his responders had to stabilize the vehicle before the mother and her children could be extricated. “We thought we were going to have to use the jaws of life and take the roof off to get them out, but that was not necessary once we got the vehicle stabilized.”
Sgt. Deley said the accident is still under investigation and there has been no decision yet on possible charges.
