Road closures at Hart Dam
Road closures are scheduled this month as BC Hydro conducts maintenance and testing of the three spillways gates at John Hart Dam.
BC Hydro spokesman Stephen Watson says to safely complete the work requires four days of road closures to move equipment along the top of the dam.
Crews will be completing the annual work from Nov. 19 to 30.
Traffic control will be in place over the two week period with single-lane alternating traffic on Brewster Lake Road.
The road across the dam will be closed on Nov. 20, 22, 26, and 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Access to Elk Falls Provincial Park will be maintained off Highway 28.
BC Hydro tests the gates and maintains them each year to ensure they are ready if needed to pass water downstream for flood risk management.
The Upper Campbell Reservoir and Buttle Lake are slightly below the normal level for this time of year and BC Hydro will use this additional water storage capacity for the upcoming storm season.
