Driver blows four times more than legal limit
Hitting a street light may have been just the best thing that happened to a Campbell River driver on Aug. 20.
It was shortly after midnight when the 43-year-old woman hit the light on Dogwood Street near South McPhedran Road.
The driver wasn’t injured, but when police arrived they detected notable signs of impairment. The woman was brought back to the RCMP detachment where she provided breath/alcohol readings four times more than the legal limit.
She is facing drunk driving charges and her vehicle was impounded.
A 22-year-old man also had his Ford pickup impounded for 30 days and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition for being under the influence of alcohol.
The man was also caught driving 128 km per hour in a 60 km zone. He is facing fines for excessive speeding and driving contrary to conditions of his licence.
Busy end to summer
In the last week police responded to 344 calls for service. This was the second busiest week of the year thus far.
Detachment members also had the busiest week of the year in regard to the interdiction of impaired drivers. In the last week 16 impaired drivers were taken off the road; 11 of those are facing criminal charges while five were issued with Immediate Roadside Prohibitions and vehicle impoundments.
Additionally, police issued three 24-hour suspensions.
