'Junior partner' gets jail time
Calling Jonathan Enns the “junior partner” in a crime spree didn’t reduce jail time for defence attorney Tim Summers’ client during sentencing on Wednesday.
Enns is the second man responsible for a series of vehicle and boat thefts, business break and enters and thefts, and a stolen boat chase on and near Quadra and Cortes Islands on Nov. 16.The defence “characterized Mr. Enns as a ‘junior partner,’” Judge Brian Saunderson told court just before he sentenced Enns. “That does not diminish his responsibility.They were involved in the same crimes.”
Saunderson sentenced the 21-year-old to 18 months in jail, two years probation and a DNA order, the same sentence as William Reedel, 26, received from Judge Peter Doherty on Monday in relation to the incident.
Enns pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, two counts break and enter to commit an indictable offence and theft over $5,000. He received a stay of proceedings for dangerous operation of a vessel or towed object and mischief to property.
