Highway closures planned

The upgraded section of the Old Island Highway will be closed to traffic one more time, for almost two weeks.

A one-kilometre portion of Highway 19A, between Rockland and Hilchey roads, will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., each day between Tues., May 24 and Fri., June 3. This closure will allow for the final paving of the upgraded highway.

Initial preparation work will start this week. This work will be limited to areas other than the driving lanes, with the contractor employing localized traffic control measures.

During this period, be aware of renewed construction activity and the presence of construction vehicles. The 30 kilometre per hour construction speed limit will be in effect during this preparation phase.

The road will open each night and any construction-related obstacles will be clearly marked.

It is possible that poor weather conditions could delay or extend the road closure.
