Fire guts Oyster River home
Two men safely escaped a house fire in Oyster River which burned for several hours Monday.
Flames were visible and smoke billowed from the roof when members of the Oyster River Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the Lambeth Road home just after 9 a.m.
The two male residents, the owner and a boarder, were outside trying to douse the flames with a garden hose, without much success.
The volunteers from Oyster River where later joined by members of the Campbell River Fire Department. It took firefighters most of the daytime to douse the flames.
“We were pretty busy. The guys did a lot of work and we want to thank the Campbell River Fire Department for helping us out,” said Oyster River Fire Chief Niels Holbek.
He said the home was gutted by the blaze. According to Holbek, veteran fire investigator Rob Owens believes the cause of the fire was electrical and started in an addition, and then spread to the rest of the house.
