Final paving on Highway 19A planned for May: Prepare for closures 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The City of Campbell River asks drivers to prepare for the final paving of the upgraded stretch of Highway 19A between Hilchey and Rockland Roads in May.
Note the following anticipated road closures, dates and detours:
Roadway Closure:
One kilometre of the South Island Highway (19A).
Both lanes of traffic will be closed between Rockland Road and Hilchey Road.
Estimated Dates:
five days in mid to late May
Estimated Times:
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily
Detour Routes
Southbound traffic: routed via Rockland, Galerno, Hilchey
Northbound traffic: routed via Hilchey, Galerno, Rockland
Crossing guards will be present during heavy detour traffic periods to assist pedestrians at the Hilchey and Galerno intersection. Exact closure details will be posted in local newspapers once specific dates and times are confirmed at the end of April.
This paving marks the final phase of work on the Highway 19A Upgrade project. Originally planned for March, the paving work now benefits from a funding deadline extension (extended from March 31 to October 31), which enables final paving to be done during warmer, drier weather.
