CR DanceXtreme’s 2017 competitive season has been very successful. All of their competitive dance programs have competed against top schools in B.C. and the U.S. All of their routines received excellent placements, with several students winning prestigious scholarships and individual top honours. At Tremaine Dance Competition in Vancouver, Washington, dancers Emiko Koizumi and Harlee Benoche auditioned and won regional scholarships that allow them to attend any regional convention throughout North America for free. Both Cohan Caflisch and Taylor Carson also won, but their awards were year-long scholarships that allow them to attend every convention Tremaine hosts next season. Kaylin Bohmer entered the freestyle battle competition where he had to perform his best moves while improvising in front of a packed audience of parents and dancers. At the end, the audience (through their applause) picked him as the winner and Tremaine awarded him a convention scholarship to attend their national finals in Orlando, Florida this summer.

CR DanceXtreme’s Showteam dancers also placed and won numerous awards and scholarships at Velocity Dance Competition and Convention in Vancouver, B.C. Ashley Henri was chosen as a “Tap Evolving Artist” recipient. She was given free tap lessons every month through Internet video courses. Luke Sweet and Emma Voltera won regional scholarships. Frannie Hall, Kamden Hicks, and Emma Voltera won half-off registration fees to Velocity’s national finals in Las Vegas this summer. Cohan Caflisch and Sylvain Barbot were awarded the “MVA 1st Runner-Up Scholarship” which includes a tour scholarship to any and all regional cities, half-off of national finals in Las Vegas, and they will have the opportunity to compete against Velocity’s top soloists and perform with a celebrity guest at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas at their nationals this summer.

CR DanceXtreme’s Showteam dancers saved their best for last, at the last two competitions of the season. In Vernon, they competed at Shine Dance Festival where they were awarded with the top honour of “Studio Spirit Award” which is given to the studio whose students, staff, and families exhibit friendliness, respect, and support towards fellow competitors, teachers, and festival staff, as well as modeling a high standard of etiquette and sportsmanship throughout the festival. Sylvain Barbot was awarded with the “The Next Step” scholarship, which pays a portion of his registration fees towards their summer intensive dance camp in Los Angeles this summer. This dance camp provides young, talented dancers with the skills necessary to break into the professional dance industry. Emiko Koizumi was chosen as one of the top 10 dancers of Shine and was asked to join their emerging artist intensive dance camp in Burnaby. Along with this special recognition and very special award, Koizumi will experience a full day of master classes, workshops, and photo shoot at no cost. For Koizumi, this will be her second year attending.

The last competition of the season was held in Nanaimo for Peak Dance Competition. Out of 420 routines, their hip hop group, “Doll Story – The Sequel” won the top overall award of the entire competition.

Both Peak and Shine invited “Doll Story” and a boys’ jazz trio, “Heatstroke”, to perform in their year-end gala charity shows. These special performances recognize the most entertaining and memorable routines of the entire competition season.

Last but not least, 10 dancers from CR DanceXtreme were chosen out of hundreds who auditioned throughout B.C. to represent Team Canada at the World Hip Hop Championships this fall in Denmark. A big congratulations to Koizumi, Eberle Caflisch, Cohan Caflisch, Taylor Ring, Sylvain Barbot, Kaylin Bohmer, Keely Finn, Dharma Knudson, Rianna Ostrosser, and Caelan Ostrosser.
