Internationally-renowned pianist comes to Trinity Presbyterian
Hailed for his “breathtaking virtuosity and an intelligent sense of precisely what brings music to life” by the Albuquerque Journal, and his “rhythmic integrity, singing tone quality, and refinement” by the Clavier Companion, Swedish-American pianist Elias-Axel Pettersson has established himself as a formidable soloist and chamber musician.
A Mason & Hamlin Concert Artist, Pettersson has garnered prizes on the national and international level and has been heard on national radio.
And on Saturday, Jan. 14 Pettersson will perform at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Simms Road at 2:30 p.m. in a concert sponsored by the Campbell River Friends of Music. His program will include music from Mendelssohn, Franck, Blumenfeld, Schubert and Ravel.
Pettersson received a Doctorate of Music degree from the L’Université de Montréal, where he is currently a teaching assistant. He presents masterclasses throughout North America and was a member of the jury for the 2013 Canadian Music Competition. His primary teachers include Paul Stewart, Douglas Humpherys, Larissa Dedova, Maribeth Gunning, and Sergei Babayan. Pettersson is founder and artistic director of Southwest Piano Festival in Albuquerque, NM.
While in Campbell River, Pettersson will also be conducting master classes with local piano students. Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults and $10 for students and can be reserved by calling Shelley Roberts 250-923-7658 or Donna Robertson 250-923-4378.
